Anthropic Launches Claude 2.1, Surpasses GPT-4 Turbo in Context Length

Anthropic, the company behind the Claude family of AI models, has introduced new monthly Max plans starting at $100 per month and going up to $200.

The $100 plan offers five times the usage of the existing $20 Monthly Pro plan, while the $200 plan provides 20 times the usage. In addition to increased usage limits, subscribers to the Max plan will receive priority access to the latest features and models.

The new plan will benefit users who often hit rate limits quickly on Claude, if they are willing to pay a higher price. For instance, Andrew Wilkinson, co-founder of Tiny, requested Anthropic on X earlier this year, “Let me pay you more [so that we do] not hit these insane limits on Claude. I literally hit limits after like 10-20 [minutes] on most of my projects. I would pay thousands per month for totally unlimited access.”

Anthropic is likely following the footsteps of OpenAI, which also announced a $200 monthly ChatGPT Pro Plan last year.

The ChatGPT Pro Plan includes all the features of the $20 per month Plus plan, as well as unlimited access to all reasoning models and GPT-4o. It also offers extensive access to in-depth research. Furthermore, Pro users receive early access to research previews like GPT-4.5 and Operator, improved performance through the o1 pro mode, and extended access to Sora for advanced video generation.

Recently, Anthropic launched Claude for Education, a specialised version of its AI tool Claude designed to support higher education institutions. Key features include Learning Mode, which encourages critical thinking through Socratic questioning, and campus-wide access at several notable institutions.

Last month, the company released the Claude 3.7 Sonnet, a hybrid model with extended thinking capabilities. Artificial Analysis, a platform that independently analyses AI models, called it the best non-reasoning model for coding. Besides, Anthropic plans to release a new version of Claude 3.7 Sonnet with a 500k context window—a significant jump from the current 200k capacity. TestingCatalog spotted evidence of the same in feature flags.
