This article will count down, in no particular order, the series and movies that are coming out this year on topics around AI. Expect to see some familiar names.
Terminator Reboot
The mother of all AI-based movies is coming out with yet another sequel, with the director of Deadpool at the helm. It will star Arnold Schwarzenegger (yet again) in a movie where the Terminator robots have to prevent a cataclysmic doomsday event of some sort. It is set for release in November of this year and is sure to fill up the cinemas. For a few days, at least.
Men In Black: International
Slated for release in June, MIB: International is confirmed to be a spinoff on the series that concluded with MIB 3. There is no new as of yet regarding the casting choices for the movie. However, it is expected that Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will not return, as it a spinoff. It is also sure to include a lot of technology restricted to halls of science fiction.
Sequel to Alien: Covenant
Alien: Covenant introduced us to the unsettling cyborg synthetic known as David, who acted as the primary antagonist in the movie. The sequel might see him reprising his role, with the release date yet to be announced. Audiences will be in for another couple of hours of aliens with extremely long appendages emerging from their mouths.
Ad Astra
This sci-fi romp features Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones in the lead roles and follows the former as he travels across the solar system to find his lost father. Being set in the future, the movie is sure to feature a lot of new, unexplained and incredulous technology. The movie is set for a release date in May.
Replicas
This Keanu Reeves-starrer is right on the horizon, with a release date scheduled on January 18th. The trailer for the movie features AR, VR, cloning and AI, making the movie a must watch for any science enthusiast.
Untitled Darren Aronofsky movie about AI
Academy Award-winning director, Darren Aronofsky is set to release a movie later this year which is a courtroom drama. However, the twist is that AI is involved in some way, making this a must watch for fans of AI ethics. The presence of a courtroom would imply that the AI is standing trial for its crimes. Details are scarce, and the release date has not been set as well.
IO
This movie is a Netflix-produced feature, with a release on January 18th. It follows the story of Earth’s last survivor and her journey to get on the final escape shuttle to Jupiter’s moon, Io.
