American multinational computer software giant Adobe on Monday announced that they to set up an advanced artificial intelligence laboratory in Hyderabad soon.

Shantanu Narayen, CEO of Adobe Systems, said in a statement, “Adobe is thrilled to announce that we are starting an advanced AI lab in Hyderabad. The abundance of tech talent in Hyderabad, coupled with the pro-business stance of minister KT Rama Rao, makes this an exciting initiative for growth for Adobe.”

The announcement was made after a meeting between IT Minister for Telangana state KT Rama Rao and Narayen at the Nasscom India Leadership Forum (NILF) in Hyderabad. This year, the three-day event is also hosting the World Congress on Information Technology — a global event that is making its debut in India.

Rao confirmed the news from his verified Twitter account:

Reportedly, KTR has been following up with Adobe setting up an AI lab in Hyderabad, ever since he met Narayen in 2015.

An official press release from Telangana IT department quoted Narayen as saying, “We are starting an advanced AI Lab in Hyderabad. As the global leader providing content creation and enterprise experience software solutions, driving innovative products is the core essence of our company.”

Adobe is known for its products such as Photoshop, Pagemaker, and Acrobat Reader, among others.

Going along with the Centre’s BharatNet programme, the Telangana government showcased its ambitious Fiber Grid (T-Fiber) program at the WCIT 2018. The pilot of the program, which covers around 50 government offices and households in four villages of Ranga Reddy district, was launched by Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad along with KTR.

The news comes hot on the heels of Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu announcing that he wanted to make Amaravati “India’s centre for cloud management, artificial intelligence, data analytics, cyber security, blockchain, healthcare etc.” AP currently shares its de jure capital Hyderabad with Telengana, which was formed in 2014.
