Taking the perfect selfie just got easier with the help of AI. Chinese phone manufacturer, Oppo will soon make its AI-backed selfie-centric smartphone Oppo A83 available for the Indian mobile phone users.
Oppo A83 is designed to provide superior selfies and comes preloaded with an AI that makes photographs richer in quality. The 8 MP front camera and 13 MP rear camera are equipped with Beauty Recognition Technology — Oppo’s proprietary AI facial recognition technology. It is the same technology that is also found in Oppo’s earlier selfie-centric model, Oppo F5.
Assisted by the AI technology, the camera recognises the user’s gender, age, skin tone and skin type and references it against global database of human faces. When a picture is taken over 200 facial points are captured by the AI. This enables the refinement of features and better composition of facial contours which in turn creates a three-dimensional appearance of the face.
In order to eliminate structural and facial distortion in pictures of a moving subject, the AI uses over 200 focus points to create clear pictures of the subject where the facial structure and contours are defined and intact. Beauty Recognition Technology AI constantly updates its library and algorithms.
On the launch of Oppo A83, Will Yang, Brand Director of OPPO India, said in a statement,
“Our focus has always been on bringing best photography and selfie experience to the Indian consumers. We have received an immense response for our Selfie Expert A Series and F Series. With the A83 we wish to bring an affordable selfie camera with advance features such as the HD + Full Screen Display and AI Beauty Technology. The A83 truly represents our ambition to continue being the selfie expert and leader in the market.”
Oppo A83 has a 5.7-inch thin-bezel display and is powered by a 3180 mAH battery. It is also comes with Android 7.1 Nougat-based ColorOS 3.2, and a 3 GB RAM and Octa-Core CPU which provides superior gaming and multitasking experience.
Like the iPhone X, Oppo’s dual-sim smartphone also comes with a face unlock feature that enables unlocking through the alignment of the user’s face with the phone. The company claims that using 128 unique feature points on the user’s face, the feature can unlock the phone within 0.18 seconds. The fingerprint recognising sensor can be found at the back of the phone similar to the preceding F5 model.
Oppo A83 will be available in the Indian market from 20 January onwards. It is reported to be priced at Rs 13,990.
