Japan-based NEC Corporation intends to strengthen its foothold in India’s big data analytics market. Through this move, the firm plans to focus on telecom, manufacturing, and BFSI verticals in India, as well as the rest of the world. NEC Corporation will invest 10 million to set up an analytics centre in Noida.
The firm has targeted more than $100 million in revenue from its Centre of Excellence for Analytics Platform & Solutions. For this, NEC Corporation has set a timeframe of 3 years. Reports suggest that big data and analytics market in India will grow approximately 8 times, to $16 billion by 2020.
NEC Corporation aims to be among the top three players dominating the market in India. The new centre will serve as a one-stop shop for both customers and partners in telecom, retail, BFSI, and manufacturing sectors.
The organization plans to focus on markets including India, Japan, Singapore, Philippines and Hong Kong, before expanding services throughout APAC and other regions. Moreover, the organization plans to hire 70 new employees, as the centre will initially kick off operations with 30 people. Tomoyasu Nishimura, Senior Vice President of system platform business units, NEC comments, “We are creating strong partner ecosystem to support customers in India and Asia-Pacific region. India is a focus market for us. Given the need, it is a right time to be in this space.”
Nishimura also mentioned about NEC’s plans to form alliances with universities to acquire fresh talent onboard. The centre will make use of the computational power and scalability of NEC’s specialized hardware for big data and analytics. According to the company this move will help in flexibly handling the ever increasing demand for storage and computation by Hadoop.
Moreover, the big data and analytics market is expected to reach $210 billion by 2020. This is not all, Hadoop alone is expected to reach $50.2 billion by 2020. However, the industry is already facing a shortage in talent, specifically in Hadoop and analytics areas. The establishment of the COE-APS will help NEC leverage India’s strong talent base. “Our solution is a mix of hardware and software, which coupled with consulting services will act as a one-stop-shop for customers in India,” concludes Nishimura.
